To place a bid you need to have credits on your account, there are packages they sell to add credits. You have to pay with a credit card for your purchases, you cannot use your credits as they can only be used for placing bids. Starting prices are displayed at the start of an auction but the actual price is concealed until a credit is used and when it does the price decreases by $0.25. It can then be purchased or you can continue with the bidding.
