The Coconut Mystery
Even in today’s modern world, mysteries still exist, and one is the confusing question about the classification of a coconut. Also called “the tree of life” for its many uses, a coconut is a palm tree that grows to about 30 meters. Despite its height, it is not considered as a tree but a woody monocotyledon, having its trunk as the stem. Because of the unique characteristics of a coconut, even scientists and botanists have explored various bodies of knowledge such as etymology, entomology, art, botany, fossil, genetics, and travel just to look for the most satisfying answer to the question if a coconut is a nut, a fruit, or a seed.
